And Rehoboam went to Shechem: in order to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.രെഹബെയാമിനെ രാജാവാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യിസ്രായേലെല്ലാം ശെഖേമിൽ വന്നിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവനും ശെഖേമിൽ ചെന്നു.

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, where he fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.എന്നാൽ ശലോമോൻ രാജാവിന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽനിന്നു ഓടിപ്പോയി മിസ്രയീമിൽ പാർത്തിരുന്ന നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാം അതു കേട്ടിട്ടു മിസ്രയീമിൽനിന്നു മടങ്ങിവന്നു.

And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,അവർ ആളയച്ചു അവനെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചു; യൊരോബെയാമും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും വന്നു രെഹബെയാമിനോടു:

Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease you somewhat the grievous servitude of your father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve you.നിന്റെ അപ്പൻ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ഞങ്ങളുടെ മേൽ വെച്ചു; ആകയാൽ നിന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ കഠിനവേലയും അവൻ ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഭാരമുള്ള നുകവും നീ ഭാരം കുറെച്ചുതരേണം; എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്നെ സേവിക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.അവൻ അവരോടു: മൂന്നു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു വീണ്ടും എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ജനം പോയി.

And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give all of you me to return answer to this people?രെഹബെയാംരാജാവു തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശലോമോൻ ജീവനോടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ നിന്നിരുന്ന വൃദ്ധന്മാരോടു ആലോചിച്ചു: ഈ ജനത്തോടു ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങൾ എന്താലോചന പറയുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And they spoke unto him, saying, If you be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be your servants for ever.അതിന്നു അവർ അവനോടു നീ ജനത്തോടു ദയ കാണിച്ചു അവരെ പ്രസാദിപ്പിച്ചു അവരോടു നല്ല വാക്കു പറഞ്ഞാൽ അവർ എന്നും നിനക്കു ദാസന്മാരായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.എന്നാൽ വൃദ്ധന്മാർ തന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ആലോചന അവൻ ത്യജിച്ചു, തന്നോടുകൂടെ വളർന്നവരായി തന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ നില്ക്കുന്ന യൌവനക്കാരോടു ആലോചിച്ചു:

And he said unto them, What advice give all of you that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that your father did put upon us?നിന്റെ അപ്പൻ ഞങ്ങളുടെ മേൽ വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നുകം ഭാരം കുറെച്ചു തരേണം എന്നിങ്ങനെ എന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഈ ജനത്തോടും നാം ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങൾ എന്താലോചന പറയുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

And the young men that were brought up with him spoke unto him, saying, Thus shall you answer the people that spoke unto you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it somewhat lighter for us; thus shall you say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.അവനോടു കൂടെ വളർന്നിരുന്ന യൌവനക്കാർ അവനോടു: നിന്റെ അപ്പൻ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വെച്ചു: നീ അതു ഭാരം കുറെച്ചുതരേണം എന്നു നിന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ജനത്തോടു: എന്റെ ചെറുവിരൽ എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ അരയേക്കാൾ വണ്ണമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.

For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.എന്റെ അപ്പൻ നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം വെച്ചിരിക്കെ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ നുകത്തിന്നു ഭാരം കൂട്ടും; എന്റെ അപ്പൻ നിങ്ങളെ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാനോ നിങ്ങളെ തേളിനെക്കൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും എന്നിങ്ങനെ നീ ഉത്തരം പറയേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.മൂന്നാം ദിവസം വീണ്ടും എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുവിൻ എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞതു പോലെ യൊരോബെയാമും സകലജനവും മൂന്നാം ദിവസം രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കൽവന്നു.

And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,എന്നാൽ രാജാവു അവരോടു കഠിനമായിട്ടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു; രെഹബെയാംരാജാവു വൃദ്ധന്മാരുടെ ആലോചന ത്യജിച്ചു

And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.യൌവനക്കാരുടെ ആലോചനപ്രകാരം അവരോടു: എന്റെ അപ്പൻ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വെച്ചു; ഞാനോ അതിന്നു ഭാരം കൂട്ടും; എന്റെ അപ്പൻ നിങ്ങളെ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാനോ തേളിനെക്കൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.ഇങ്ങനെ രാജാവു ജനത്തിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടില്ല; യഹോവ ശീലോന്യനായ അഹീയാമുഖാന്തരം നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകേണ്ടതിന്നു ഈ കാര്യം ദൈവഹിതത്താൽ സംഭവിച്ചു.

And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to yours own house. So all Israel went to their tents.രാജാവു തങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേൾക്കയില്ല എന്നു എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ജനം രാജാവിനോടു: ദാവീദിങ്കൽ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു എന്തോഹരിയുള്ളു? യിശ്ശായിയുടെ പുത്രങ്കൽ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു അവകാശം ഇല്ലല്ലോ; യിസ്രായേലേ, ഓരോരുത്തൻ താന്താന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊൾവിൻ; ദാവീദേ, നിന്റെ ഗൃഹം നോക്കിക്കൊൾക എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും തങ്ങളുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങളിലേക്കു പോയി.

But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.യെഹൂദാനഗരങ്ങളിൽ പാർത്തിരുന്ന യിസ്രായേല്യർക്കോ രെഹബെയാം രാജാവായ്തീർന്നു.

Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.പിന്നെ രെഹബെയാംരാജാവു ഊഴിയവേലകൂ മേൽവിചാരകനായ ഹദോരാമിനെ അയച്ചു; എന്നാൽ യിസ്രായേല്യർ അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു കൊന്നു കളഞ്ഞു; രെഹബെയാംരാജാവു വേഗത്തിൽ രഥം കയറി യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോയി.

And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേൽ ഇന്നുവരെ ദാവീദ് ഗൃഹത്തോടു മത്സരിച്ചുനില്ക്കുന്നു.
