1 Samuel 5

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു അതിനെ ഏബെൻ-ഏസെരിൽനിന്നു അസ്തോദിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു ദാഗോന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു ദാഗോന്റെ അരികെ വെച്ചു.

And when they of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.പിറ്റെന്നാൾ രാവിലെ അസ്തോദ്യർ എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോൾ ദാഗോൻ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ കവിണ്ണുവീണു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു. അവർ ദാഗോനെ എടുത്തു വീണ്ടും അവന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്തു നിർത്തി.

And when they arose early on the next day morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.പിറ്റെന്നാൾ രാവിലെ അവർ എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോൾ ദാഗോൻ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ കവിണ്ണുവീണു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു. ദാഗോന്റെ തലയും അവന്റെ കൈപ്പത്തികളും ഉമ്മരപ്പടിമേൽ മുറിഞ്ഞുകിടന്നു; ദാഗോന്റെ ഉടൽമാത്രം ശേഷിച്ചിരുന്നു.

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.അതുകൊണ്ടു ദാഗോന്റെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരും ദാഗോന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കടക്കുന്നവരും അസ്തോദിൽ ദാഗോന്റെ ഉമ്മരപ്പടിമേൽ ഇന്നും ചവിട്ടുമാറില്ല.

But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and stroke them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.എന്നാൽ യഹോവയുടെ കൈ അസ്തോദ്യരുടെമേൽ ഭാരമായിരുന്നു; അവൻ അവരെ ശൂന്യമാക്കി അസ്തോദിലും അതിന്റെ അതിരുകളിലും ഉള്ളവരെ മൂലരോഗത്താൽ ബാധിച്ചു.

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.അങ്ങനെ ഭവിച്ചതു അസ്തോദ്യർ കണ്ടിട്ടു: യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കൽ ഇരിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ കൈ നമ്മുടെമേലും നമ്മുടെ ദേവനായ ദാഗോന്റെ മേലും കഠിനമായിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.അവർ ആളയച്ചു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി: യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം സംബന്ധിച്ചു നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവർ: യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം ഗത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപേകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he stroke the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.അവർ അതു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നശേഷം ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു പരിഭ്രമം ഉണ്ടാകത്തക്കവണ്ണം യഹോവയുടെ കൈ ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നും വിരോധമായ്തീർന്നു; അവൻ പട്ടണക്കാരെ ആബാലവൃദ്ധം ബാധിച്ചു; അവർക്കു മൂലരോഗം തുടങ്ങി.

Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.അതുകൊണ്ടു അവർ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എക്രോനിലേക്കു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എക്രോനിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ എക്രോന്യർ: നമ്മെയും നമുക്കുള്ളവരെയും കൊല്ലുവാൻ അവർ യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നിലവിളിച്ചു.

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.അവർ ആളയച്ചു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സകല പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തി: യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മെയും നമ്മുടെ ജനത്തെയും കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അതിനെ വിട്ടയച്ചുകളയേണം; അതു വീണ്ടും അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ആ പട്ടണത്തിലെങ്ങും മരണകരമായ പരിഭ്രമം ഉണ്ടായി; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കൈ അവിടെയും അതിഭാരമായിരുന്നു.

And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.മരിക്കാതിരുന്നവർ മൂലരോഗത്താൽ ബാധിതരായി; പട്ടണത്തിലെ നിലവിളി ആകാശത്തിൽ കയറി.

And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം ഏഴു മാസം ഫെലിസ്ത്യദേശത്തു ആയിരുന്നു.

And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.എന്നാൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും പ്രശ്നക്കാരെയും വരുത്തി: നാം യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം സംബന്ധിച്ചു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു? അതിനെ അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു വിട്ടയക്കേണ്ടതെങ്ങനെ എന്നു ഞങ്ങൾക്കു പറഞ്ഞുതരുവിൻ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And they said, If all of you send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any way return him a trespass offering: then all of you shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.അതിന്നു അവർ: നിങ്ങൾ യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടം വിട്ടയക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ വെറുതെ അയക്കാതെ ഒരു പ്രായശ്ചിത്തവും അവന്നു കൊടുത്തയക്കേണം; അപ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾക്കു സൌഖ്യം വരും; അവന്റെ കൈ നിങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു നീങ്ങാതെ ഇരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു നിങ്ങൾക്കു അറിയാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.ഞങ്ങൾ അവന്നു കൊടുത്തയക്കേണ്ടുന്ന പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവർ പറഞ്ഞതു: ഫെലിസ്ത്യ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരുടെ എണ്ണത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടു അഞ്ചു മൂലകൂരുവും പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടു അഞ്ചു എലിയും തന്നേ; നിങ്ങൾക്കെല്ലാവർക്കും നിങ്ങളുടെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർക്കും ഒരേ ബാധയല്ലോ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതു.

Wherefore all of you shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that ruin the land; and all of you shall give glory unto the God of Israel: possibly he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.ആകയാൽ നിങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ മൂലകൂരുവിന്റെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേശത്തെ ശൂന്യമാക്കുന്ന എലിയുടെയും പ്രതിമകൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കി, യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്നു തിരുമുൽക്കാഴ്ചവെക്കേണം; പക്ഷേ അവൻ തന്റെ കൈ നിങ്ങളുടെ മേൽനിന്നും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേവന്മാരുടെ മേൽനിന്നും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേശത്തിന്മേൽനിന്നും നീക്കും.

Wherefore then do all of you harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?മിസ്രയീമ്യരും ഫറവോനും തങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ കഠിനമാക്കിയതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ കഠിനമാക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ അത്ഭുതം പ്രവൃത്തിച്ചശേഷമല്ലയോ അവർ അവരെ വിട്ടയക്കയും അവർ പോകയും ചെയ്തതു?

Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milk giving cattle, on which there has come no yoke, and tie the cattle to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:ആകയാൽ നിങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോൾ ഒരു പുതിയ വണ്ടി ഉണ്ടാക്കി നുകം വെച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്ത കറവുള്ള രണ്ടു പശുക്കളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു വണ്ടിക്കു കെട്ടി അവയുടെ കിടാക്കളെ അവയുടെ അടുക്കൽനിന്നു വീട്ടിൽ മടക്കിക്കൊണ്ടു പോകുവിൻ.

And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which all of you return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു വണ്ടിയിൽ വെപ്പിൻ; നിങ്ങൾ അവന്നു പ്രായശ്ചിത്തമായി കൊടുത്തയക്കുന്ന പൊന്നുരുപ്പടികളും ഒരു ചെല്ലത്തിൽ അതിന്നരികെ വെച്ചു അതു തനിച്ചുപോകുവാൻ വിടുവിൻ.

And see, if it goes up by the way of his own coast to Bethshemesh, then he has done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that stroke us: it was a chance that happened to us.പിന്നെ നോക്കുവിൻ: അതു ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയായി സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുന്നു എങ്കിൽ അവൻ തന്നേയാകുന്നു നമുക്കു ഈ വലിയ അനർത്ഥം വരുത്തിയതു; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ നമ്മെ ബാധിച്ചതു അവന്റെ കയ്യല്ല, യദൃച്ഛയാ നമുക്കു ഭവിച്ചതത്രേ എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ളാം.

And the men did so; and took two milk giving cattle, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home:അവർ അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു; കറവുള്ള രണ്ടു പശുക്കളെ വരുത്തി വണ്ടിക്കു കെട്ടി, അവയുടെ കിടാക്കളെ വീട്ടിൽ ഇട്ടു അടെച്ചു.

And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods.പിന്നെ അവർ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകവും പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടുള്ള എലികളും മൂലകൂരുവിന്റെ പ്രതിമകളും ഇട്ടിരുന്ന ചെല്ലവും വണ്ടിയിൽ വെച്ചു.

And the cattle took the straight way to the way of Bethshemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Bethshemesh.ആ പശുക്കൾ നേരെ ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിക്കു പോയി: അവ കരഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു വലത്തോട്ടോ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ മാറാതെ പെരുവഴിയിൽ കൂടി തന്നേ പോയി; ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശിന്റെ അതിർവരെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു.

And they of Bethshemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.അന്നേരം ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യർ താഴ്വരയിൽ കോതമ്പു കൊയ്യുകയായിരുന്നു: അവർ തല ഉയർത്തി പെട്ടകം കണ്ടു; കണ്ടിട്ടു സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Bethshemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the cattle a burnt offering unto the LORD.വണ്ടി ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യനായ യോശുവയുടെ വയലിൽ വന്നുനിന്നു: അവിടെ ഒരു വലിയ കല്ലു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവർ വണ്ടിയുടെ മരം വെട്ടിക്കീറി പശുക്കളെ യഹോവെക്കു ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചു.

And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Bethshemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.ലേവ്യർ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകവും പൊന്നുരുപ്പടികൾ ഉള്ള ചെല്ലവും ഇറക്കി ആ വലിയ കല്ലിന്മേൽ വെച്ചു; ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യർ അന്നു യഹോവെക്കു ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും ഹനനയാഗങ്ങളും അർപ്പിച്ചു.

And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ ഏവരും ഇതു കണ്ടശേഷം അന്നു തന്നേ എക്രോനിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ യഹോവെക്കു പ്രായശ്ചിത്തമായി കൊടുത്തയച്ച പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടുള്ള മൂലകൂരുക്കൾ അസ്തോദിന്റെ പേർക്കു ഒന്നു, ഗസ്സയുടെ പേർക്കു ഒന്നു, അസ്കലോന്റെ പേർക്കു ഒന്നു, ഗത്തിന്റെ പേർക്കു ഒന്നു, എക്രോന്റെ പേർക്കു ഒന്നു ഇങ്ങനെയായിരുന്നു.

And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD: which stone remains unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Bethshemite.പൊന്നു കൊണ്ടുള്ള എലികൾ ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളും നാട്ടുപുറങ്ങളിലെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളും ആയി അഞ്ചു പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർക്കുള്ള സകലഫെലിസ്ത്യപട്ടണങ്ങളുടെയും എണ്ണത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം ആയിരുന്നു. അവർ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം ഇറക്കിവെച്ച വലിയ കല്ലു ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യനായ യോശുവയുടെ വയലിൽ ഇന്നുവരെയും ഉണ്ടു.

And he stroke the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he stroke of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യർ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിൽ നോക്കുകകൊണ്ടു അവൻ അവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു; അവൻ ജനത്തിൽ അമ്പതിനായിരത്തെഴുപതുപേരെ സംഹരിച്ചു. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവ ജനത്തിൽ ഒരു മഹാസംഹാരം ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു ജനം വിലപിച്ചു:

And the men of Bethshemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?ഈ പരിശുദ്ധദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ നില്പാൻ ആർക്കു കഴിയും? അവൻ ഞങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു ആരുടെ അടുക്കൽ പോകും എന്നു ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശ്യർ പറഞ്ഞു.

And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjathjearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come all of you down, and fetch it up to you.അവർ കിർയ്യത്ത്-യെയാരീംനിവാസികളുടെ അടുക്കൽ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു: ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം മടക്കി അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങൾ വന്നു അതിനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടു പോകുവിൻ എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.കിർയ്യത്ത്-യെയാരീംനിവാസികൾ വന്നു യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു കുന്നിന്മേൽ അബീനാദാബിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിനെ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം സൂക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.

And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.പെട്ടകം കിർയ്യത്ത്-യെയാരീമിൽ ആയിട്ടു ഏറിയകാലം, ഇരുപതു സംവത്സരം തന്നേ, കഴിഞ്ഞു; യിസ്രായേൽഗൃഹമൊക്കെയും യഹോവയോടു വിലപിച്ചു.

And Samuel spoke unto all the house of Israel, saying, If all of you do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.അപ്പോൾ ശമൂവേൽ എല്ലായിസ്രായേൽഗൃഹത്തോടും: നിങ്ങൾ പൂർണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിയുന്നു എങ്കിൽ അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെയും അസ്തോരെത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽനിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിക്കയും അവനെ മാത്രം സേവിക്കയും ചെയ്‍വിൻ; എന്നാൽ അവൻ നിങ്ങളെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ ബാൽവിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും അസ്തോരെത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു യഹോവയെ മാത്രം സേവിച്ചു.

And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.അനന്തരം ശമൂവേൽ: എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിനെയും മിസ്പയിൽ കൂട്ടുവിൻ; ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു വേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.അവർ മിസ്പയിൽ ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി; വെള്ളം കോരി യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ ഒഴിച്ചു ആ ദിവസം ഉപവസിച്ചു: ഞങ്ങൾ യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേൽ മിസ്പയിൽവെച്ചു യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾക്കു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ മിസ്പയിൽ ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി എന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ കേട്ടപ്പോൾ ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു; യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ അതു കേട്ടിട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ ശമൂവേലിനോടു: നമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഞങ്ങളെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങൾക്കു വേണ്ടി അവനോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുന്നതു മതിയാക്കരുതേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.അപ്പോൾ ശമൂവേൽ പാൽ കുടിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ആട്ടിൻ കുട്ടിയെ എടുത്തു യഹോവെക്കു സർവ്വാംഗഹോമം കഴിച്ചു. ശമൂവേൽ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു വേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു; യഹോവ ഉത്തരമരുളി.

And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and humiliated them; and they were smitten before Israel.ശമൂവേൽ ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ യിസ്രായേലിനോടു പടെക്കു അടുത്തു; എന്നാൽ യഹോവ അന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെമേൽ വലിയ ഇടിമുഴക്കി അവരെ പരിഭ്രമിപ്പിച്ചു; അവർ യിസ്രായേലിനോടു തോറ്റു.

And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and stroke them, until they came under Bethcar.യിസ്രായേല്യർ മിസ്പയിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടർന്നു; ബേത്ത്-കാരിന്റെ താഴെവരെ അവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Until now has the LORD helped us.പിന്നെ ശമൂവേൽ ഒരു കല്ലു എടുത്തു മിസ്പെക്കും ശേനിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ നാട്ടി: ഇത്രത്തോളം യഹോവ നമ്മെ സഹായിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അതിന്നു ഏബെൻ-ഏസെർ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.ഇങ്ങനെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ ഒതുങ്ങി, പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേൽദേശത്തേക്കു വന്നതുമില്ല; ശമൂവേലിന്റെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും യഹോവയുടെ കൈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർക്കു വിരോധമായിരുന്നു.

And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.എക്രോൻ മുതൽ ഗത്ത്‌വരെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ യിസ്രായേലിനോടു പിടിച്ചിരുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങൾ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു തിരികെ കിട്ടി; അവയുടെ അതിർനാടുകളും യിസ്രായേൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു. യിസ്രായേലും അമോർയ്യരും തമ്മിൽ സമാധാനമായിരുന്നു.

And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.ശമൂവേൽ ജീവപര്യന്തം യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.അവൻ ആണ്ടുതോറും ബേഥേലിലും ഗില്ഗാലിലും മിസ്പയിലും ചുറ്റിസഞ്ചരിച്ചു, അവിടങ്ങളിൽവെച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തിട്ടു രാമയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോരും;

And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.അവിടെയായിരുന്നു അവന്റെ വീടു: അവിടെവെച്ചും അവൻ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം നടത്തിവന്നു; യഹോവെക്കു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠവും പണിതിരുന്നു.

1 Samuel 8

And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.ശമൂവേൽ വൃദ്ധനായപ്പോൾ തന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായാധിപന്മാരാക്കി.

Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.അവന്റെ ആദ്യജാതന്നു യോവേൽ എന്നും രണ്ടാമത്തവന്നു അബീയാവു എന്നും പേർ. അവർ ബേർ-ശേബയിൽ ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തുപോന്നു.

And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after illegal gain, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ അവന്റെ വഴിയിൽ നടക്കാതെ ദുരാഗ്രഹികളായി കൈക്കൂലി വാങ്ങി ന്യായം മറിച്ചുവന്നു.

Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,ആകയാൽ യിസ്രായേൽമൂപ്പന്മാർ എല്ലാവരും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി, രാമയിൽ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു, അവനോടു:

And said unto him, Behold, you are old, and your sons walk not in your ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.നീ വൃദ്ധനായിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ നിന്റെ വഴിയിൽ നടക്കുന്നില്ല; ആകയാൽ സകല ജാതികൾക്കുമുള്ളതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങൾക്കു ഒരു രാജാവിനെ നിയമിച്ചുതരേണമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.ഞങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു രാജാവിനെ തരേണമെന്നു അവർ പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യം ശമൂവേലിന്നു അനിഷ്ടമായി. ശമൂവേൽ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു.

And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto you: for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതെന്തെന്നാൽ: ജനം നിന്നോടു പറയുന്ന സകലത്തിലും അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേൾക്ക; അവർ നിന്നെയല്ല, ഞാൻ അവരെ ഭരിക്കാതവണ്ണം എന്നെയാകുന്നു ത്യജിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു.

According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto you.ഞാൻ അവരെ മിസ്രയീമിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ച നാൾമുതൽ ഇന്നുവരെ അവർ എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചും അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെ സേവിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ നിന്നോടും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

Now therefore hearken unto their voice: nevertheless yet protest solemnly unto them, and show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.ആകയാൽ അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേൾക്ക; എങ്കിലും അവരോടു ഘനമായി സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചു അവരെ വാഴുവാനിരിക്കുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ ന്യായം അവരോടു അറിയിക്കേണം.

And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.അങ്ങനെ രാജാവിന്നായി അപേക്ഷിച്ച ജനത്തോടു ശമൂവേൽ യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ എല്ലാം അറിയിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ:

And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.നിങ്ങളെ വാഴുവാനിരിക്കുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ ന്യായം ഇതായിരിക്കും: അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രന്മാരെ തനിക്കു തേരാളികളും കുതിരച്ചേവകരും ആക്കും; അവന്റെ രഥങ്ങൾക്കു മുമ്പെ അവർ ഓടേണ്ടിയും വരും.

And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.അവൻ അവരെ ആയിരത്തിന്നും അമ്പതിന്നും അധിപന്മാരാക്കും; തന്റെ നിലം കൃഷി ചെയ്‍വാനും തന്റെ വിള കൊയ്‍വാനും തന്റെ പടക്കോപ്പും തേർകോപ്പും ഉണ്ടാക്കുവാനും അവരെ നിയമിക്കും.

And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ തൈലക്കാരത്തികളും വെപ്പുകാരത്തികളും അപ്പക്കാരത്തികളും ആയിട്ടു എടുക്കും.

And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive yards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ വിശേഷമായ നിലങ്ങളും മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളും ഒലിവുതോട്ടങ്ങളും എടുത്തു തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാർക്കു കൊടുക്കും.

And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ വിളവുകളിലും മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളിലും ദശാംശം എടുത്തു തന്റെ ഷണ്ഡന്മാർക്കും ഭൃത്യന്മാർക്കും കൊടുക്കും.

And he will take your male servants, and your maidservants, and your best young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ദാസന്മാരെയും ദാസിമാരെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ കോമളയുവാക്കളെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ കഴുതകളെയും പിടിച്ചു തന്റെ വേലെക്കു ആക്കും.

He will take the tenth of your sheep: and all of you shall be his servants.അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ആടുകളിൽ പത്തിലൊന്നു എടുക്കും; നിങ്ങൾ അവന്നു ദാസന്മാരായ്തീരും.

¹⁸

And all of you shall cry out in that day because of your king which all of you shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.നിങ്ങൾ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ നിമിത്തം നിങ്ങൾ അന്നു നിലവിളിക്കും; എന്നാൽ യഹോവ അന്നു ഉത്തരമരുളുകയില്ല.

Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;എന്നാൽ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ വാക്കു കൈക്കൊൾവാൻ ജനത്തിന്നു മനസ്സില്ലാതെ: അല്ല, ഞങ്ങൾക്കു ഒരു രാജാവു വേണം

That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.മറ്റു സകലജാതികളെയും പോലെ ഞങ്ങളും ആകേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവു ഞങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കയും ഞങ്ങൾക്കു നായകനായി പുറപ്പെടുകയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ യുദ്ധങ്ങളെ നടത്തുകയും വേണം എന്നു അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.ശമൂവേൽ ജനത്തിന്റെ വാക്കെല്ലാം കേട്ടു യഹോവയോടു അറിയിച്ചു.

And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go all of you every man unto his city.യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടു: അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു അവർക്കു ഒരു രാജാവിനെ വാഴിച്ചുകൊടുക്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ശമൂവേൽ യിസ്രായേല്യരോടു: നിങ്ങൾ ഓരോരുത്തൻ താന്താന്റെ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊൾവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
