Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel,ശൌൽ രാജാവായപ്പോൾ (മുപ്പതു) വയസ്സുള്ളവനായിരുന്നു; അവൻ യിസ്രായേലിൽ രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം വാണു.

Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.ശൌൽ യിസ്രായേലിൽ മൂവായിരം പേരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു; രണ്ടായിരംപേർ ശൌലിനോടുകൂടെ മിക്മാസിലും ബേഥേൽമലയിലും ആയിരം പേർ യോനാഥാനോടുകൂടെ ബെന്യാമീനിലെ ഗിബെയയിലും ആയിരുന്നു; ശേഷം ജനത്തെ അവൻ അവനവന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു.

And Jonathan stroke the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.പിന്നെ യോനാഥാൻ ഗേബയിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്പട്ടാളത്തെ തോല്പിച്ചു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ അതു കേട്ടു. എബ്രായർ കേൾക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ശൌൽ ദേശത്തെല്ലാടവും കാഹളം ഊതിച്ചു.

And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel also was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.ശൌൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്പട്ടാളത്തെ തോല്പിച്ചു എന്നും യിസ്രായേൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർക്കു നാറ്റമായി എന്നും യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും കേട്ടിട്ടു ജനം ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഗില്ഗാലിൽ വന്നു കൂടി.

And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Bethaven.എന്നാൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ യിസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്‍വാൻ മുപ്പതിനായിരം രഥവും ആറായിരം കുതിരച്ചേവകരും കടല്പുറത്തെ മണൽപോലെ അസംഖ്യം ജനവുമായി ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി; അവർ വന്നു ബേത്ത്-ആവെന്നു കിഴക്കു മിക്മാസിൽ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി.

When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.എന്നാൽ ജനം ഉപദ്രവിക്കപ്പെട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു തങ്ങൾ വിഷമത്തിലായി എന്നു യിസ്രായേല്യർ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ജനം ഗുഹകളിലും പള്ളക്കാടുകളിലും പാറകളിലും ഗഹ്വരങ്ങളിലും കുഴികളിലും ചെന്നു ഒളിച്ചു.

And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.എബ്രായർ യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നു ഗാദ്‌ദേശത്തും ഗിലെയാദിലും പോയി; ശൌലോ ഗില്ഗാലിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നു; ജനമെല്ലാം പേടിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു.

And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.ശമൂവേൽ നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്ന അവധിഅനുസരിച്ചു അവൻ ഏഴു ദിവസം കാത്തിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും ശമൂവേൽ ഗില്ഗാലിൽ എത്തിയില്ല; ജനവും അവനെ വിട്ടു ചിതറിപ്പോയി.

And Saul said, Bring here a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.അപ്പോൾ ശൌൽ: ഹോമയാഗവും സമാധാനയാഗവും ഇവിടെ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു; അവൻ തന്നേ ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചു.

And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചു തീർന്ന ഉടനെ ഇതാ, ശമൂവേൽ വരുന്നു; ശൌൽ അവനെ വന്ദനം ചെയ്‍വാൻ എതിരേറ്റുചെന്നു.

And Samuel said, What have you done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you came not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;നീ ചെയ്തതു എന്തു എന്നു ശമൂവേൽ ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു ശൌൽ: ജനം എന്നെ വിട്ടു ചിതറുന്നു എന്നും നിശ്ചയിച്ച അവധിക്കു നീ എത്തിയില്ല എന്നും ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ മിക്മാസിൽ കൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നും ഞാൻ കണ്ടിട്ടു:

Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ ഇപ്പോൾ ഇങ്ങു ഗില്ഗാലിൽ വന്നു എന്നെ ആക്രമിക്കും; ഞാൻ യഹോവയോടു കൃപെക്കായി അപേക്ഷിച്ചതുമില്ലല്ലോ എന്നുവെച്ചു ഞാൻ ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly: you have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which he commanded you: for now would the LORD have established your kingdom upon Israel for ever.ശമൂവേൽ ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: നീ ചെയ്തതു ഭോഷത്വം; നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിന്നോടു കല്പിച്ച കല്പന നീ പ്രമാണിച്ചില്ല; യഹോവ യിസ്രായേലിന്മേൽ നിന്റെ രാജത്വം എന്നേക്കുമായി സ്ഥിരമാക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

But now your kingdom shall not continue: the LORD has sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be captain over his people, because you have not kept that which the LORD commanded you.ഇപ്പോഴോ നിന്റെ രാജത്വം നിലനിൽക്കയില്ല; യഹോവ നിന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചതിനെ നീ പ്രമാണിക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ച ഒരു പുരുഷനെ യഹോവ അന്വേഷിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടു; അവനെ യഹോവ തന്റെ ജനത്തിന്നു പ്രഭുവായി നിയമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

And Samuel arose, and got him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.പിന്നെ ശമൂവേൽ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഗില്ഗാലിൽനിന്നു ബെന്യാമീനിലെ ഗിബെയയിലേക്കു പോയി. ശൌൽ തന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള പടജ്ജനത്തെ എണ്ണി ഏകദേശം അറുനൂറു പേർ എന്നു കണ്ടു.

And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Gibeah of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.ശൌലും അവന്റെ മകൻ യോനാഥാനും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനവും ബെന്യാമീനിലെ ഗിബെയയിൽ പാർത്തു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോ മിക്മാസിൽ പാളയമിറങ്ങി.

And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leads to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual:ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പാളയത്തിൽനിന്നു കവർച്ചക്കാർ മൂന്നു കൂട്ടമായി പുറപ്പെട്ടു; ഒരു കൂട്ടം ഒഫ്രെക്കുള്ള വഴിയായി ശൂവാൽദേശത്തേക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞു;

And another company turned the way to Bethhoron: and another company turned to the way of the border that looks to the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.മറ്റൊരുകൂട്ടം ബേത്ത്-ഹോരോനിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞു; മറ്റേ കൂട്ടം മരുഭൂമിക്കു നേരേ സെബോയീംതാഴ്വരെക്കെതിരെയുള്ള ദേശം വഴിയായും തിരിഞ്ഞു.

Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:എന്നാൽ യിസ്രായേൽദേശത്തെങ്ങും ഒരു കൊല്ലനെ കാണ്മാനില്ലായിരുന്നു; എബ്രായർ വാളോ കുന്തമോ തീർപ്പിക്കരുതു എന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ പറഞ്ഞു.

But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock.യിസ്രായേല്യർ തങ്ങളുടെ കൊഴു, കലപ്പ, മഴു, മൺവെട്ടി എന്നിവ കാച്ചിപ്പാൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെല്ലേണ്ടിവന്നു.

Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads.എന്നാൽ മൺവെട്ടി, കലപ്പ, മുപ്പല്ലി, മഴു എന്നിവെക്കായും മുടിങ്കോൽ കൂർപ്പിപ്പാനും അവർക്കു അരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.ആകയാൽ യുദ്ധസമയത്തു ശൌലിനോടും യോനാഥാനോടും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനത്തിൽ ഒരുത്തന്നും വാളും കുന്തവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല; ശൌലിന്നും അവന്റെ മകൻ യോനാഥാന്നും മാത്രമേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളു.

And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പട്ടാളമോ മിക്മാസിലെ ചുരംവരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു.

1 Samuel 14

Now it came to pass on a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.ഒരു ദിവസം ശൌലിന്റെ മകൻ യോനാഥാൻ തന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനായ ബാല്യക്കാരനോടു: വരിക, നാം അങ്ങോട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പട്ടാളത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവൻ അപ്പനോടു പറഞ്ഞില്ലതാനും.

And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men;ശൌൽ ഗിബെയയുടെ അതിരിങ്കൽ മിഗ്രോനിലെ മാതളനാരകത്തിൻ കീഴിൽ ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു. അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പടജ്ജനം ഏകദേശം അറുനൂറു പേർ.

And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD's priest in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.ശീലോവിൽ യഹോവയുടെ പുരോഹിതനായിരുന്ന ഏലിയുടെ മകനായ ഫീനെഹാസിന്റെ മകനായ ഈഖാബോദിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അഹീതൂബിന്റെ മകൻ അഹീയാവു ആയിരുന്നു അന്നു ഏഫോദ് ധരിച്ചിരുന്നതു. യോനാഥാൻ പോയതു ജനം അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.യോനാഥാൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പട്ടാളത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുവാൻ നോക്കിയ വഴിയിൽ ഇപ്പുറവും അപ്പുറവും കടുന്തൂക്കമായ ഓരോ പാറ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഒന്നിന്നു ബോസേസ് എന്നും മറ്റേതിന്നു സേനെ എന്നും പേർ.

The forefront of the one was situated northward opposite to Michmash, and the other southward opposite to Gibeah.ഒന്നു വടക്കുവശം മിക്മാസിന്നു മുഖമായും മറ്റേതു തെക്കുവശം ഗിബെയെക്കു മുഖമായും തൂക്കെ നിന്നിരുന്നു.

And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.യോനാഥാൻ തന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനായ ബാല്യക്കാരനോടു: വരിക, നമുക്കു ഈ അഗ്രചർമ്മികളുടെ പട്ടാളത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചെല്ലാം; പക്ഷെ യഹോവ നമുക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രവർത്തിക്കും; അധികംകൊണ്ടോ അല്പംകൊണ്ടോ രക്ഷിപ്പാൻ യഹോവെക്കു പ്രായസമില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And his armour bearer said unto him, Do all that is in yours heart: turn you; behold, I am with you according to your heart.ആയുധവാഹകൻ അവനോടു: നിന്റെ മനസ്സുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും ചെയ്ക; നടന്നുകൊൾക; നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ഞാൻ നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.അതിന്നു യോനാഥാൻ പറഞ്ഞതു: നാം അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു അവർക്കു നമ്മെത്തന്നെ കാണിക്കാം;

If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ വരുവോളം നില്പിൻ എന്നു അവർ പറഞ്ഞാൽ നാം അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ കയറിപ്പോകാതെ നിന്നേടത്തുതന്നേ നിൽക്കേണം.

But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD has delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.ഇങ്ങോട്ടു കയറിവരുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞാലോ നമുക്കു കയറിച്ചെല്ലാം; യഹോവ അവരെ നമ്മുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നതിന്നു ഇതു നമുക്കു അടയാളം ആയിരിക്കും.

And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.ഇങ്ങനെ അവർ ഇരുവരും ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പട്ടാളത്തിന്നു തങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ കാണിച്ചപ്പോൾ: ഇതാ, എബ്രായർ ഒളിച്ചിരുന്ന പൊത്തുകളിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു വരുന്നു എന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ പറഞ്ഞു.

And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armour bearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will show you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armour bearer, Come up after me: for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.പട്ടാളക്കാർ യോനാഥാനോടും അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനോടും: ഇങ്ങോട്ടു കയറിവരുവിൻ; ഞങ്ങൾ ഒന്നു കാണിച്ചുതരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ യോനാഥാൻ തന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനോടു: എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ കയറിവരിക; യഹോവ അവരെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armour bearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armour bearer slew after him.അങ്ങനെ യോനാഥാനും അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ആയുധവാഹകനും തത്തിപ്പിടിച്ചു കയറി; അവർ യോനാഥന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വീണു; ആയുധവാഹകൻ അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ കൊന്നുംകൊണ്ടു നടന്നു.

And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armour bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.യോനാഥാനും ആയുധവാഹകനും ചെയ്ത ഈ ആദ്യസംഹാരത്തിൽ ഒരു കാണിനിലത്തിന്റെ പാതി നീളത്തിന്നകം ഇരുപതുപേർ വീണു.

And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.പാളയത്തിലും പോർക്കളത്തിലും സർവ്വജനത്തിലും നടുക്കമുണ്ടായി പട്ടാളവും കവർച്ചക്കാരും കൂടെ വിറച്ചു, ഭൂമി കുലുങ്ങി, വലിയോരു നടുക്കം ഉണ്ടായി.

And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.അപ്പോൾ ബെന്യാമീനിലെ ഗിബെയയിൽനിന്നു ശൌലിന്റെ കാവൽക്കാർ നോക്കി പുരുഷാരം ചിന്നി അങ്ങുമിങ്ങും ഓടുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armour bearer were not there.ശൌൽ കൂടെയുള്ള ജനത്തോടു: എണ്ണിനോക്കി നമ്മിൽനിന്നു പോയവർ ആരെന്നറിവിൻ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. അവർ എണ്ണിനോക്കിയപ്പോൾ യോനാഥാനും അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring here the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.ശൌൽ അഹീയാവിനോടു: ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം ഇവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം ആ കാലത്തു യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെ അടുക്കൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw yours hand.ശൌൽ പുരോഹിതനോടു സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പാളയത്തിലെ കലാപം മേല്ക്കുമേൽ വർദ്ധിച്ചുവന്നു. അപ്പോൾ ശൌൽ പുരോഹിതനോടു: നിന്റെ കൈ വലിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.ശൌലും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനമൊക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി പടെക്കു ചെന്നു, അവിടെ അവർ അന്യോന്യം വെട്ടി വലിയ കലക്കമായിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.മുമ്പെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു ചേർന്നു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ദേശത്തുനിന്നു അവരോടുകൂടെ പാളയത്തിൽവന്നിരുന്ന എബ്രായരും ശൌലിനോടും യോനാഥാനോടും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ പക്ഷം തിരിഞ്ഞു.

Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടിൽ ഒളിച്ചിരുന്ന യിസ്രായേല്യർ ഒക്കെയും ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ തോറ്റോടി എന്നു കേട്ടയുടനെ അവരും പടയിൽ ചേർന്നു അവരെ പിന്തുടർന്നു.

So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Bethaven.അങ്ങനെ യഹോവ അന്നു യിസ്രായേലിനെ രക്ഷിച്ചു; പട ബേത്ത്-ആവെൻ വരെ പരന്നു.

And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.ജനമൊക്കെയും ഒരു കാട്ടുപ്രദേശത്തു എത്തി; അവിടെ നിലത്തു തേൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.ജനം കാട്ടിൽ കടന്നപ്പോൾ തേൻ ഇറ്റിറ്റു വീഴുന്നതു കണ്ടു: എങ്കിലും സത്യത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു ആരും തന്റെ കൈ വായിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയില്ല.

But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.യോനാഥാനോ തന്റെ അപ്പൻ ജനത്തെക്കൊണ്ടു സത്യം ചെയ്യിച്ചതു കേൾക്കാതിരുന്നതിനാൽ വടിയുടെ അറ്റം നീട്ടി ഒരു തേൻ കട്ടയിൽ കുത്തി അതു എടുത്തു തന്റെ കൈ വായിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി, അവന്റെ കണ്ണു തെളിഞ്ഞു.

Then answered one of the people, and said, Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food this day. Then said Jonathan, My father has troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.അതിന്നു യോനാഥാൻ: എന്റെ അപ്പൻ ദേശത്തെ കഷ്ടത്തിലാക്കി; ഞാൻ ഈ തേൻ ഒരല്പം ആസ്വദിക്കകൊണ്ടു എന്റെ കണ്ണു തെളിഞ്ഞതു കണ്ടില്ലയോ?

How much more, if lest by any means the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?ജനത്തിന്നു കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കൊള്ളയിൽനിന്നു അവർ എടുത്തു ഇന്നു വേണ്ടുംപോലെ ഭക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ എത്രനന്നായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ അപജയം അത്ര വലുതായില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.ആകയാൽ ജനം കൊള്ളകൂ ഓടിച്ചെന്നു ആടുകളെയും കാളകളെയും കിടാക്കളെയും പിടിച്ചു നിലത്തു വെച്ചു അറുത്തു രക്തത്തോടുകൂടെ തിന്നു.

Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, All of you have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.ജനം രക്തത്തോടെ തിന്നുന്നതിനാൽ യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു ശൊലിന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടിയപ്പോൾ അവൻ: നിങ്ങൾ ഇന്നു ദ്രോഹം ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഒരു വലിയ കല്ലു എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഉരുട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me here every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.ശൌൽ യഹോവെക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു; അതു അവൻ യഹോവെക്കു ആദ്യം പണിത യാഗപീഠം ആയിരുന്നു.

And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seems good unto you. Then said the priest, Let us draw near here unto God.അനന്തരം ശൌൽ: നാം രാത്രിയിൽ തന്നേ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടർന്നു പുലരുവോളം അവരെ കൊള്ളയിടുക; അവരിൽ ഒരുത്തനെയും ശേഷിപ്പിക്കരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. നിനക്കു ബോധിച്ചതുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും ചെയ്തുകൊൾക എന്നു അവർ പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ: നാം ഇവിടെ ദൈവത്തോടു അടുത്തുചെല്ലുക എന്നു പുരോഹിതൻ പറഞ്ഞു.

And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? will you deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.അങ്ങനെ ശൌൽ ദൈവത്തോടു: ഞാൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടരേണമോ? നീ അവരെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിക്കുമോ എന്നു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ അന്നു അവന്നു അരുളപ്പാടു ലഭിച്ചില്ല.

And Saul said, Draw all of you near here, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin has been this day.അപ്പോൾ ശൌൽ: ജനത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാനികൾ ഒക്കെയും ഇവിടെ അടുത്തുവരട്ടെ; ഇന്നു പാപം സംഭവിച്ചതു ഏതു കാര്യത്തിൽ എന്നു അന്വേഷിച്ചറിവിൻ;

For, as the LORD lives, which saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.യിസ്രായേലിനെ രക്ഷിക്കുന്ന യഹോവയാണ, അതു എന്റെ മകൻ യോനാഥാനിൽ തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നാലും അവൻ മരിക്കേണം നിശ്ചയം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാൽ അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറവാൻ സർവ്വ ജനത്തിലും ഒരുത്തനും തുനിഞ്ഞില്ല.

Then said he unto all Israel, Be all of you on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seems good unto you.അവൻ എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിനോടും: നിങ്ങൾ ഒരു ഭാഗത്തു നില്പിൻ; ഞാനും എന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനും മറുഭാഗത്തു നിൽക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ആകട്ടെ എന്നു ജനം ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.അങ്ങനെ ശൌൽ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു: നേർ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിത്തരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ ശൌലിന്നു യോനാഥാന്നും ചീട്ടുവീണു; ജനം ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോയി.

And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.പിന്നെ ശൌൽ: എനിക്കും എന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാന്നും ചീട്ടിടുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ചീട്ടു യോനാഥാന്നു വീണു.

Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.ശൌൽ യോനാഥാനോടു: നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു? എന്നോടു പറക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യോനാഥാൻ അവനോടു: ഞാൻ എന്റെ വടിയുടെ അറ്റംകൊണ്ടു അല്പം തേൻ ആസ്വദിച്ചതേയുള്ളു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഇതാ, ഞാൻ മരിക്കേണ്ടിവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for you shall surely die, Jonathan.അതിന്നു ശൌൽ: ദൈവം എന്നോടു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടെ യോനാഥാനേ, നീ മരിക്കേണം എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.എന്നാൽ ജനം ശൌലിനോടു: യിസ്രായേലിൽ ഈ മഹാരക്ഷ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന യോനാഥാൻ മരിക്കേണമോ? ഒരിക്കലും അരുതു; യഹോവയാണ, അവന്റെ തലയിലെ ഒരു രോമവും നിലത്തു വീഴുകയില്ല; അവൻ ഇന്നു ദൈവത്തോടുകൂടെയല്ലോ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ജനം യോനാഥാനെ വീണ്ടെടുത്തു; അവൻ മരിക്കേണ്ടിവന്നതുമില്ല.

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.ശൌൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടരാതെ മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി; ഫെലിസ്ത്യരും തങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോയി.

So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and anywhere he turned himself, he vexed them.ശൌൽ യിസ്രായേലിൽ രാജത്വം ഏറ്റശേഷം മോവാബ്യർ, അമ്മോന്യർ, എദോമ്യർ, സോബാരാജാക്കന്മാർ, ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ എന്നിങ്ങനെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള സകലജാതികളോടും യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു; അവൻ ചെന്നേടത്തൊക്കെയും ജയംപ്രാപിച്ചു.

And he gathered an host, and stroke the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.അവൻ ശൌര്യം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു അമാലേക്യരെ ജയിച്ചു, യിസ്രായേല്യരെ കവർച്ചക്കാരുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു വിടുവിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchishua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:എന്നാൽ ശൌലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ യോനാഥാൻ, യിശ്വി, മൽക്കീശുവ എന്നിവർ ആയിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാർക്കോ, മൂത്തവൾക്കു മേരബ് എന്നും ഇളയവൾക്കു മീഖാൾ എന്നും പേരായിരുന്നു.

And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.ശൌലിന്റെ ഭാര്യക്കു അഹീനോവം എന്നു പേർ ആയിരുന്നു; അവൾ അഹീമാസിന്റെ മകൾ. അവന്റെ സേനാധിപതിക്കു അബ്നേർ എന്നു പേർ; അവൻ ശൌലിന്റെ ഇളയപ്പനായ നേരിന്റെ മകൻ ആയിരുന്നു.

And Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.ശൌലിന്റെ അപ്പനായ കീശും അബ്നേരിന്റെ അപ്പനായ നേരും അബീയേലിന്റെ മക്കൾ ആയിരുന്നു.

1 Samuel 15

Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken you unto the voice of the words of the LORD.അനന്തരം ശമൂവേൽ ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ: യഹോവ നിന്നെ തന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകംചെയ്‍വാൻ എന്നെ നിയോഗിച്ചുവല്ലോ; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഇപ്പോൾ യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ കേട്ടുകൊൾക.

Thus says the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: യിസ്രായേൽ മിസ്രയീമിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരുമ്പോൾ വഴിയിൽവെച്ചു അമാലേക്ക് അവരെ ആക്രമിച്ചു അവരോടു ചെയ്തതിനെ ഞാൻ കുറിച്ചുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and nursing infant, ox and sheep, camel and ass.ആകയാൽ നീ ചെന്നു അമാലേക്യരെ തോല്പിച്ചു അവർക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും നിർമ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളക; അവരോടു കനിവു തോന്നരുതു; പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുട്ടികളെയും മുലകുടിക്കുന്നവരെയും കാള, ആടു, ഒട്ടകം, കഴുത എന്നിവയെയും സംഹരിച്ചുകളക.

And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.എന്നാറെ ശൌൽ ജനത്തെ ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി തെലായീമിൽ വെച്ചു അവരെ എണ്ണി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രക്കാരായ പതിനായിരം പേർ ഒഴികെ രണ്ടുലക്ഷം കാലാൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.പിന്നെ ശൌൽ അമാലേക്യരുടെ പ്രധാന നഗരംവരെ ചെന്നു തോട്ടിന്നരികെ പതിയിരിപ്പാക്കി.

And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for all of you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.എന്നാൽ ശൌൽ കേന്യരോടു: ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ അമാലേക്യരോടുകൂടെ നശിപ്പിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോകുവിൻ; യിസ്രായേൽ മക്കൾ മിസ്രയീമിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നപ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ അവർക്കു ദയചെയ്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ കേന്യർ അമാലേക്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി.

And Saul stroke the Amalekites from Havilah until you come to Shur, that is opposite to Egypt.പിന്നെ ശൌൽ ഹവീലാമുതൽ മിസ്രയീമിന്നു കിഴക്കുള്ള ശൂർവരെ അമാലേക്യരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.അമാലേക്യരുടെ രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ ജീവനോടെ പിടിച്ചു, ജനങ്ങളെ ഒക്കെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ നിർമ്മൂലമാക്കി.

But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.എന്നാൽ ശൌലും ജനവും ആഗാഗിനെയും ആടു, മാടു, തടിച്ചമൃഗം എന്നിവയിൽ മേത്തരമായവയെയും കുഞ്ഞാടുകളെയും ഉത്തമമായവയെ ഒക്കെയും നിർമ്മൂലമാക്കുവാൻ മനസ്സില്ലാതെ ജീവനോടെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു; ഹീനവും നിസ്സാരവുമായവയെ ഒക്കെയും അവർ നിർമ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,അപ്പോൾ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ശമൂവേലിന്നുണ്ടായതു എന്തെന്നാൽ:

It repents me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.ഞാൻ ശൌലിനെ രാജാവായി വാഴിച്ചതിനാൽ എനിക്കു മനസ്താപമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവൻ എന്നെ വിട്ടുമാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ കല്പനകളെ നിവൃത്തിച്ചതുമില്ല. ഇതിങ്കൽ ശമൂവേലിന്നു വ്യസനമായി; അവൻ രാത്രി മുഴുവനും യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു.

And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.ശമൂവേൽ ശൌലിനെ എതിരേല്പാൻ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോൾ ശൌൽ കർമ്മേലിൽ എത്തിയെന്നും ഒരു ജ്ഞാപകസ്തംഭം നാട്ടി ഘോഷയാത്ര കഴിച്ചു തിരിഞ്ഞു ഗില്ഗാലിലേക്കു പോയി എന്നും ശമൂവേലിന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി.

And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be you of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.പിന്നെ ശമൂവേൽ ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ശൌൽ അവനോടു: യഹോവയാൽ നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ; ഞാൻ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന നിവർത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel said, What means then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?അതിന്നു ശമൂവേൽ: എന്റെ ചെവിയിൽ എത്തുന്ന ആടുകളുടെ ഈ കരച്ചലും ഞാൻ കേൾക്കുന്ന കാളകളുടെ മുക്കുറയും എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.അവയെ അമാലേക്യരുടെ പക്കൽനിന്നു അവർ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതാകുന്നു; ജനം ആടുകളിലും കാളകളിലും മേത്തരമായവയെ നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവെക്കു യാഗംകഴിപ്പാൻ ജീവനോടെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു; ശേഷമുള്ളവയെ ഞങ്ങൾ നിർമ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു എന്നു ശൌൽ പറഞ്ഞു.

Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD has said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.ശമൂവേൽ ശൌലിനോടു: നിൽക്ക; യഹോവ ഈ കഴിഞ്ഞ രാത്രി എന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു ഞാൻ നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ അവനോടു: പറഞ്ഞാലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel said, When you were little in yours own sight, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed you king over Israel?അപ്പോൾ ശമൂവേൽ പറഞ്ഞതു: നിന്റെ സ്വന്തകാഴ്ചയിൽ നീ ചെറിയവനായിരുന്നിട്ടും യഹോവ നിന്നെ യിസ്രായേൽ ഗോത്രങ്ങൾക്കു തലവനാക്കുകയും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജാവായി നിന്നെ അഭിഷേകം കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്തില്ലയോ?

And the LORD sent you on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.പിന്നെ യഹോവ നിന്നെ ഒരു വഴിക്കു അയച്ചു: നീ ചെന്നു അമാലേക്യരായ പാപികളെ നിർമ്മൂലമാക്കുകയും അവർ നശിക്കുംവരെ അവരോടു പൊരുതുകയും ചെയ്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

Wherefore then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but did fly upon the spoil, and did evil in the sight of the LORD?അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ നീ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിക്കാതെ കൊള്ളെക്കു ചാടി യഹോവെക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായതു ചെയ്തതെന്തു?

And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.ശൌൽ ശമൂവേലിനോടു: ഞാൻ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിച്ചു യഹോവ എന്നെ അയച്ചവഴിക്കു പോയി അമാലേക്രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അമാലേക്യരെ നിർമ്മൂലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD your God in Gilgal.എന്നാൽ ജനം ശപഥാർപ്പിതവസ്തുക്കളിൽ വിശേഷമായ ആടുമാടുകളെ കൊള്ളയിൽനിന്നു എടുത്തു ഗില്ഗാലിൽ നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവെക്കു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാൻ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel said, Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.ശമൂവേൽ പറഞ്ഞതു: യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന അനുസരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും ഹനനയാഗങ്ങളും യഹോവെക്കു പ്രസാദമാകുമോ? ഇതാ, അനുസരിക്കുന്നതു യാഗത്തെക്കാളും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നതു മുട്ടാടുകളുടെ മേദസ്സിനെക്കാളും നല്ലതു.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and your words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.ശൌൽ ശമൂവേലിനോടു: ഞാൻ ജനത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവരുടെ വാക്കു അനുസരിച്ചതിനാൽ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനയും നിന്റെ വാക്കും ലംഘിച്ചു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

Now therefore, I pray you, pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD.എങ്കിലും എന്റെ പാപം ക്ഷമിച്ചു ഞാൻ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with you: for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel.ശമൂവേൽ ശൌലിനോടു: ഞാൻ പോരികയില്ല; നീ യഹോവയുടെ വചനത്തെ തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ നിന്നെയും യിസ്രായേലിലെ രാജസ്ഥാനത്തുനിന്നു തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.പിന്നെ ശമൂവേൽ പോകുവാൻ തിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അവൻ അവന്റെ നിലയങ്കിയുടെ വിളുമ്പു പിടിച്ചു വലിച്ചു; അതു കീറിപ്പോയി.

And Samuel said unto him, The LORD has rent the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbour of yours, that is better than you.ശമൂവേൽ അവനോടു: യഹോവ ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജത്വം നിങ്കൽ നിന്നു കീറി നിന്നെക്കാൾ ഉത്തമനായ നിന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹത്വമായവൻ ഭോഷ്കു പറകയില്ല, അനുതപിക്കയുമില്ല; അനുതപിപ്പാൻ അവൻ മനുഷ്യനല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD your God.അപ്പോൾ അവൻ: ഞാൻ പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ജനത്തിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെയും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ ഇപ്പോൾ എന്നെ മാനിച്ചു, ഞാൻ നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടു കൂടെ പോരേണമേ എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേൽ ശൌലിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു; ശൌൽ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

Then said Samuel, Bring all of you here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.അനന്തരം ശമൂവേൽ: അമാലേക്രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ ഇവിടെ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ആഗാഗ് സന്തോഷഭാവത്തോടെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു: മരണഭീതി നീങ്ങപ്പോയി എന്നു ആഗാഗ് പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel said, As the sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.പിന്നെ ശമൂവേൽ രാമയിലേക്കു പോയി; ശൌലും ശൌലിന്റെ ഗിബെയയിൽ അരമനയിലേക്കു പോയി.

And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.ശമൂവേൽ ജീവപര്യന്തം ശൌലിനെ പിന്നെ കണ്ടില്ല; എങ്കിലും ശമൂവേൽ ശൌലിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിച്ചു; യഹോവയും താൻ ശൌലിനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു അനുതപിച്ചു.

And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill yours horn with oil, and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.അനന്തരം യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടു: യിസ്രായേലിലെ രാജസ്ഥാനത്തിൽനിന്നു ഞാൻ ശൌലിനെ തള്ളിയെന്നറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കെ നീ അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു എത്രത്തോളം ദുഃഖിക്കും? കൊമ്പിൽ തൈലം നിറെച്ചു പുറപ്പെടുക; ഞാൻ നിന്നെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയക്കും; അവന്റെ മക്കളിൽ ഞാൻ ഒരു രാജാവിനെ കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And Samuel did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Come you peaceably?യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ശമൂവേൽ ചെയ്തു, ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമിൽ ചെന്നു; പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാർ അവന്റെ വരവിങ്കൽ വിറെച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു: നിന്റെ വരവു ശുഭം തന്നേയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടു: അവന്റെ മുഖമോ പൊക്കമോ നോക്കരുതു; ഞാൻ അവനെ തള്ളിയിരിക്കുന്നു. മുനഷ്യൻ നോക്കുന്നതുപോലെയല്ല; മനുഷ്യൻ കണ്ണിന്നു കാണുന്നതു നോക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയോ ഹൃദയത്തെ നോക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD has not chosen these.അങ്ങനെ യിശ്ശായി ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാരെ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വരുത്തി; എന്നാൽ ശമൂവേൽ യിശ്ശായിയോടു: യഹോവ ഇവരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all your children? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he keeps the sheep. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was rosy, and likewise of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.എന്നാൽ യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു ശൌലിനെ വിട്ടുമാറി; യഹോവ അയച്ച ഒരു ദൂരാത്മാവു അവനെ ബാധിച്ചു.

And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.അപ്പോൾ ശൌലിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാർ അവനോടു: ദൈവം അയച്ച ഒരു ദൂരാത്മാവു നിന്നെ ബാധിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

Let our lord now command your servants, which are before you, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon you, that he shall play with his hand, and you shall be well.ആകയാൽ കിന്നരവായനയിൽ നിപുണനായ ഒരുത്തനെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാൻ തിരുമനസ്സുകൊണ്ടു അടിയങ്ങൾക്കു കല്പന തരേണം; എന്നാൽ ദൈവത്തിങ്കൽ നിന്നു ദുരാത്മാവു തിരുമേനിമേൽ വരുമ്പോൾ അവൻ കൈകൊണ്ടു വായിക്കയും തിരുമേനിക്കു ഭേദം വരികയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.ശൌൽ തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടു: കിന്നരവായനയിൽ നിപുണനായ ഒരുത്തനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.ബാല്യക്കാരിൽ ഒരുത്തൻ: ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ ഒരു മകനെ ഞാൻ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടു; അവൻ കിന്നരവായനയിൽ നിപുണനും പരാക്രമശാലിയും യോദ്ധാവും വാക്ചാതുര്യമുള്ളവനും കോമളനും ആകുന്നു; യഹോവയും അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പക്കൽനിന്നു ദുരാത്മാവു ശൌലിന്മേൽ വരുമ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് കിന്നരം എടുത്തു വായിക്കും; ശൌലിന്നു ആശ്വാസവും സുഖവും ഉണ്ടാകും; ദുരാത്മാവു അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറും.
