And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds over them.അനന്തരം ദാവീദ് തന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ജനത്തെ എണ്ണിനോക്കി; അവർക്കു സഹസ്രാധിപന്മാരെയും ശതാധിപന്മാരെയും നിയമിച്ചു.

And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.ദാവീദ് ജനത്തിൽ മൂന്നിൽ ഒരു പങ്കു യോവാബിന്റെ കൈക്കീഴും മൂന്നിൽ ഒരു പങ്കു സെരൂയയുടെ മകനും യോവാബിന്റെ സഹോദരനും ആയ അബീശായിയുടെ കൈക്കീഴും മൂന്നിൽ ഒരു പങ്കു ഗിത്യനായ ഇത്ഥായിയുടെ കൈക്കീഴും അയച്ചു: ഞാനും നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരും എന്നു രാജാവു ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the king said unto them, What seems you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.രാജാവു അവരോടു: നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഉത്തമം എന്നു തോന്നുന്നതു ഞാൻ ചെയ്യാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ രാജാവു പടിവാതിൽക്കൽ നിന്നു; ജനമൊക്കെയും നൂറുനൂറായും ആയിരമായിരമായും പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.അബ്ശാലോംകുമാരനോടു എന്നെ ഓർത്തു കനിവോടെ പെരുമാറുവിൻ എന്നു രാജാവു യോവാബിനോടും അബീശായിയോടും ഇത്ഥായിയോടും കല്പിച്ചു. രാജാവു അധിപതിമാരോടൊക്കെയും അബ്ശാലോമിനെക്കുറിച്ചു കല്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ ജനമെല്ലാം കേട്ടു.

So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;പിന്നെ ജനം പടനിലത്തേക്കു യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; എഫ്രയീംവനത്തിൽവെച്ചു പടയുണ്ടായി.

Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.യിസ്രായേൽ ജനം ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകരോടു തോറ്റു. അന്നു അവിടെ ഒരു മഹാസംഹാരം നടന്നു ഇരുപതിനായിരം പേർ പട്ടുപോയി.

For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.പട ആ ദേശത്തെല്ലാടവും പരന്നു; അന്നു വാളിന്നിരയായതിലും അധികം പേർ വനത്തിന്നിരയായ്തീർന്നു.

And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.അബ്ശാലോം ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകർക്കു എതിർപ്പെട്ടു; അബ്ശാലോം കോവർകഴുതപ്പുറത്തു ഓടിച്ചുപോകുമ്പോൾ കോവർകഴുത കൊമ്പു തിങ്ങിനില്ക്കുന്ന ഒരു വലിയ കരുവേലകത്തിൻ കീഴെ എത്തി; അവന്റെ തലമുടി കരുവേലകത്തിൽ പിടിപെട്ടിട്ടു അവൻ ആകാശത്തിന്നും ഭൂമിക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ തൂങ്ങി; അവന്റെ കീഴിൽനിന്നു കോവർകഴുത ഓടിപ്പോയി.

And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.ഒരുത്തൻ അതു കണ്ടിട്ടു: അബ്ശാലോം ഒരു കരുവേലകത്തിൽ തൂങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുന്നതു ഞാൻ കണ്ടു എന്നു യോവാബിനോടു അറിയിച്ചു.

And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, you saw him, and why did you not strike him there to the ground? and I would have given you ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.യോവാബ് തന്നെ അറിയിച്ചവനോടു: നീ അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവിടെവെച്ചുതന്നേ വെട്ടിക്കളയാഞ്ഞതു എന്തു? ഞാൻ നിനക്കു പത്തു ശേക്കെൽ വെള്ളിയും ഒരു അരക്കച്ചയും തരുമായിരുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.അവൻ യോവാബിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: ആയിരം ശേക്കെൽ വെള്ളി എനിക്കു തന്നാലും ഞാൻ രാജകുമാരന്റെ നേരെ കൈ നീട്ടുകയില്ല; അബ്ശാലോംകുമാരനെ ആരും തൊടാതിരിപ്പാൻ സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊൾവിൻ എന്നു രാജാവു നിന്നോടും അബീശായിയോടും ഇത്ഥായിയോടും ഞങ്ങൾ കേൾക്കെയല്ലോ കല്പിച്ചതു.

Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and you yourself would have set yourself against me.അല്ല, ഞാൻ അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ ദ്രോഹിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ--രാജാവിന്നു ഒന്നും മറവായിരിക്കയില്ലല്ലോ--നീ തന്നേ എന്നോടു അകന്നു നില്ക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with you. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.എന്നാൽ യോവാബ്: ഞാൻ ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ചു നേരം കളകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു മൂന്നു കുന്തം കയ്യിൽ എടുത്തു അബ്ശാലോം കരുവേലകത്തിൽ ജീവനോടു തൂങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നേ അവയെ അവന്റെ നെഞ്ചിന്നകത്തു കുത്തിക്കടത്തി.

And ten young men that bare Joab's armour compassed about and stroke Absalom, and slew him.യോവാബിന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകന്മാരായ പത്തു ബാല്യക്കാർ വളഞ്ഞു നിന്നു അബ്ശാലോമിനെ അടിച്ചുകൊന്നു.

And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.പിന്നെ യോവാബ് കാഹളം ഊതി; യോവാബ് ജനത്തെ വിലക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു അവർ യിസ്രായേലിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതു വിട്ടുമടങ്ങി.

And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.അബ്ശാലോമിനെ അവർ എടുത്തു വനത്തിൽ ഒരു വലിയ കുഴിയിൽ ഇട്ടു; അവന്റെ മേൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു കൽക്കൂമ്പാരം കൂട്ടി; യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും താന്താന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോയി.

Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.അബ്ശാലോം ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം: എന്റെ പേർ നിലനിർത്തേണ്ടതിന്നു എനിക്കു മകനില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു, രാജാവിൻ താഴ്വരയിലെ തൂൺ എടുത്തു നാട്ടി അതിന്നു തന്റെ പേർ വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു; അതിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ ജ്ഞാപക സ്തംഭം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD has avenged him of his enemies.അനന്തരം സാദോക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമാസ്: ഞാൻ ഓടിച്ചെന്നു രാജാവിനോടു, യഹോവ അവന്നുവേണ്ടി ശത്രുക്കളോടു പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്ന സദ്വർത്തമാനം അറിയിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Joab said unto him, You shall not bear tidings this day, but you shall bear tidings another day: but this day you shall bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.യോവാബ് അവനോടു: നീ ഇന്നു സദ്വർത്തമാന ദൂതനാകയില്ല; ഇനി ഒരു ദിവസം സദ്വർത്തമാനം കൊണ്ടുപോകാം; രാജകുമാരൻ മരിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു നീ ഇന്നു സദ്വർത്തമാന ദൂതനാകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Then said Joab to Cushi, Go tell the king what you have seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.പിന്നെ യോവാബ് കൂശ്യനോടു: നി കണ്ടതു രാജാവിനെ ചെന്നു അറിയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. കൂശ്യൻ യോവാബിനെ വണങ്ങി ഓടി. സാദോക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമാസ് പിന്നെയും യോവാബിനോടു: ഏതായാലും ഞാനും കൂശ്യന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ഓടട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray you, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore will you run, my son, seeing that you have no tidings ready?അതിന്നു യോവാബ്: എന്റെ മകനേ, നീ എന്തിന്നു ഓടുന്നു? നിനക്കു പ്രതിഫലം കിട്ടുകയില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and outran Cushi.അവൻ പിന്നെയും: ഏതായാലും ഞാൻ ഓടും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു: എന്നാൽ ഓടിക്കൊൾക എന്നു അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അഹീമാസ് സമഭൂമിവഴിയായി ഓടി കൂശ്യനെ കടന്നുപോയി.

And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.എന്നാൽ ദാവീദ് രണ്ടു പടിവാതിലിന്നു മദ്ധ്യേ ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു. കാവൽക്കാരൻ പടിവാതിലിന്നും മീതെ മതിലിന്റെ മുകളിൽ കയറി തല ഉയർത്തിനോക്കി ഒരുത്തൻ തനിച്ചു ഓടിവരുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came swiftly, and drew near.കാവൽക്കാരൻ രാജാവിനോടു വിളിച്ചു അറിയിച്ചു. അവൻ ഏകൻ എങ്കിൽ സദ്വർത്തമാനവും കൊണ്ടാകുന്നു വരുന്നതു എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the gate keeper, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also brings tidings.അവൻ നടന്നു അടുത്തു. പിന്നെ കാവൽക്കാരൻ മറ്റൊരുത്തൻ ഓടിവരുന്നതു കണ്ടു; കാവൽക്കാരൻ വാതിൽ കാക്കുന്നവനോടു: ഇതാ, പിന്നെയും ഒരു ആൾ തനിച്ചു ഓടി വരുന്നു എന്നു വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു. അവനും സദ്വർത്തമാനദൂതനാകുന്നു എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the watchman said, It seems to me that the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and comes with good tidings.ഒന്നാമത്തവന്റെ ഓട്ടം സാദോക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമാസിന്റെ ഓട്ടം പോലെ എനിക്കു തോന്നുന്നു എന്നു കാവൽക്കാരൻ പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു രാജാവു: അവൻ നല്ലവൻ; നല്ലവർത്തമാനം കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD your God, which has delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.അഹീമാസ് രാജാവിനോടു ശുഭം, ശുഭം എന്നു വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു: യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ നേരെ കൈ ഓങ്ങിയവരെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതന്ന നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ സ്തുതിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.അപ്പോൾ രാജാവു അബ്ശാലോംകുമാരൻ സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അഹീമാസ്: യോവാബ് രാജാവിന്റെ ഭൃത്യനെയും അടിയനെയും അയക്കുമ്പോൾ വലിയോരു കലഹം കണ്ടു; എന്നാൽ അതു എന്തെന്നു ഞാൻ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.നീ അവിടെ മാറി നിൽക്ക എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ മാറിനിന്നു.

And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD has avenged you this day of all them that rose up against you.ഉടനെ കൂശ്യൻ വന്നു: യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്നു ഇതാ നല്ല വർത്തമാനം; നിന്നോടു എതിർത്ത എല്ലാവരോടും യഹോവ ഇന്നു നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കൂശ്യൻ പറഞ്ഞു.

And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against you to do you hurt, be as that young man is.അപ്പോൾ രാജാവു കൂശ്യനോടു: അബ്ശാലോംകുമാരൻ സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു കൂശ്യൻ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളും നിന്നോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്‍വാൻ എഴുന്നേല്ക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവരും ആ കുമാരനെപ്പോലെ ആകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!ഉടനെ രാജാവു നടുങ്ങി പടിപ്പുരമാളികയിൽ കയറി: എന്റെ മകനേ, അബ്ശാലോമേ, എന്റെ മകനേ, എന്റെ മകനേ, അബ്ശാലോമേ, ഞാൻ നിനക്കു പകരം മരിച്ചെങ്കിൽ കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു; അബ്ശാലോമേ, എന്റെ മകനേ, എന്റെ മകനേ! എന്നിങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു കരഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു നടന്നു.

And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom.രാജാവു അബ്ശാലോമിനെച്ചൊല്ലി ദുഃഖിച്ചുകരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യോവാബ് കേട്ടു.

And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.എന്നാൽ രാജാവു തന്റെ മകനെക്കുറിച്ചു വ്യസനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ആ ദിവസം ജനം കേട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അന്നത്തേ ജയം ജനത്തിന്നൊക്കെയും ദുഃഖമായ്തീർന്നു.

And the people got them by stealth that day into the city, as people being ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.ആകയാൽ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ തോറ്റിട്ടു നാണിച്ചു ഒളിച്ചുവരുംപോലെ ജനം അന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ഒളിച്ചുകടന്നു.

But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!രാജാവു മുഖം മൂടി: എന്റെ മകനേ, അബ്ശാലോമേ, അബ്ശാലോമേ, എന്റെ മകനേ! എന്നു ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, You have shamed this day the faces of all your servants, which this day have saved your life, and the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the lives of your concubines;അപ്പോൾ യോവാബ് അരമനയിൽ രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു പറഞ്ഞതു: ഇന്നു നിന്റെയും നിന്റെ പുത്രീപുത്രന്മാരുടെയും നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരുടെയും വെപ്പാട്ടികളുടെയും ജീവനെ രക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരെയും നീ ഇന്നു ലജ്ജിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്നെ പാകെക്കുന്നവരെ നീ സ്നേഹീക്കുന്നു; നിന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവരെ നീ പകെക്കുന്നു;

In that you love yours enemies, and hate your friends. For you have declared this day, that you regard neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased you well.പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും ഭൃത്യന്മാരും നിനക്കു ഏതുമില്ല എന്നു നീ ഇന്നു കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അബ്ശാലോം ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കയും ഞങ്ങൾ എല്ലാവരും ഇന്നു മരിക്കയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ നിനക്കു നല്ല പ്രസാദമാകുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു എനിക്കു ഇന്നു മനസ്സിലായി.

Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto your servants: for I swear by the LORD, if you go not forth, there will not tarry one with you this night: and that will be worse unto you than all the evil that befell you from your youth until now.ആകയാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ എഴുന്നേറ്റു പുറത്തുവന്നു നിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടു സന്തോഷമായി സംസാരിക്ക; നീ പുറത്തു വരാത്തപക്ഷം യഹോവയാണ, ഈ രാത്രി ആരും നിന്നോടുകൂടെ താമസിക്കയില്ല; അതു നിന്റെ ബാല്യംമുതൽ ഇതുവരെ നിനക്കു ഭവിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള സകല അനർത്ഥത്തെക്കാളും വലിയ അനർത്ഥമായ്തീരും.

Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king does sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: for Israel had fled every man to his tent.അങ്ങനെ രാജാവു എഴുന്നേറ്റു പടിവാതിൽക്കൽ ഇരുന്നു. രാജാവു പടിവാതിൽക്കൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ജനത്തിനെല്ലാം അറിവു കിട്ടി; സകലജനവും രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വന്നു.

And say all of you to Amasa, Are you not of my bone, and of my flesh? So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.അങ്ങനെ രാജാവു മടങ്ങി യോർദ്ദാങ്കൽ എത്തി. രാജാവിനെ എതിരേറ്റു യോർദ്ദാൻ കടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടുപോരേണ്ടതിന്നു യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ ഗില്ഗാലിൽ ചെന്നു.

And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.ബഹൂരീമിലെ ബെന്യാമീന്യനായ ഗേരയുടെ മകൻ ശിമെയിയും യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരോടുകൂടെ ദാവീദ്‌രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്പാൻ ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു.

And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the king.അവനോടുകൂടെ ആയിരം ബെന്യാമീന്യരും ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹവിചാരകനായ സീബയും അവന്റെ പതിനഞ്ചു പുത്രന്മാരും ഇരുപതു ഭൃത്യന്മാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവർ രാജാവു കാൺകെ യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നു ചെന്നു.

And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. For your servant does know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.അടിയൻ പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അറിയുന്നു; അതു കൊണ്ടു ഇതാ, യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ എതിരേൽക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇറങ്ങി വരുവാൻ യോസേഫിന്റെ സകലഗൃഹത്തിലുംവെച്ചു അടിയൻ ഇന്നു മുമ്പനായി വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?എന്നാറെ സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ അബീശായി: യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനെ ശപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ശിമെയി അതുനിമിത്തം മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണ്ടയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore went not you with me, Mephibosheth?എന്നാൽ അവൻ രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്പാൻ യെരൂശലേമിൽ നിന്നു വന്നപ്പോൾ രാജാവു അവനോടു: മെഫീബോശെത്തേ, നീ എന്നോടുകൂടെ വരാതെയിരുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And he has slandered your servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in yours eyes.അവൻ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനോടു അടിയനെക്കൊണ്ടു നുണയും പറഞ്ഞു; എങ്കിലും യജമാനനായ രാജാവു ദൈവദൂതന്നു തുല്യൻ ആകുന്നു; തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്തുകൊൾക.

For all of my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet did you set your servant among them that did eat at yours own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ അടിയന്റെ പിതൃഭവനമൊക്കെയും മരണയോഗ്യർ ആയിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും അടിയനെ അവിടത്തെ മേശയിങ്കൽ ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ ആക്കി; രാജാവിനോടു ആവലാധി പറവാൻ അടിയന്നു ഇനി എന്തു അവകാശമുള്ളു?

And the king said unto him, Why speak you any more of your matters? I have said, You and Ziba divide the land.രാജാവു അവനോടു: നീ നിന്റെ കാര്യം ഇനി അധികം പറയുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? നീയും സീബയും നിലം പകുത്തെടുത്തുകൊൾവിൻ എന്നു ഞാൻ കല്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king has come again in peace unto his own house.മെഫീബോശെത്ത് രാജാവിനോടു: അല്ല, അവൻ തന്നേ മുഴുവനും എടുത്തുകൊള്ളട്ടെ; യജമാനനായ രാജാവു സമാധാനത്തോടെ അരമനയിൽ എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.ഗിലെയാദ്യനായ ബർസില്ലായിയും രോഗെലീമിൽനിന്നു വന്നു, രാജാവിനെ യോർദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ കടത്തി യാത്ര അയപ്പാൻ അവനോടുകൂടെ യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നു.

Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.ബർസില്ലായിയോ എണ്പതു വയസ്സുള്ളോരു വയോധികനായിരുന്നു; രാജാവു മഹനയീമിൽ പാർത്തിരുന്ന കാലത്തു അവൻ ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങൾ അയച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവൻ മഹാധനികൻ ആയിരുന്നു.

And the king said unto Barzillai, Come you over with me, and I will feed you with me in Jerusalem.രാജാവു ബർസില്ലായിയോടു: എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരിക; ഞാൻ നിന്നെ യെരൂശലേമിൽ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ പാർപ്പിച്ചു രക്ഷിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?ബർസില്ലായി രാജാവിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ: ഞാൻ രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ യെരൂശലേമിൽ വരുന്നതെന്തിന്നു? ഞാൻ ഇനി എത്ര നാൾ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കും?

I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should your servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?എനിക്കു ഇന്നു എണ്പതു വയസ്സായിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ലതും ആകാത്തതും എനിക്കു തിരിച്ചറിയാമോ? ഭക്ഷണപാനങ്ങളുടെ സ്വാദു അടിയന്നു അറിയാമോ? സംഗീതക്കാരുടെയും സംഗീതക്കാരത്തികളുടെയും സ്വരം എനിക്കു ഇനി കേട്ടു രസിക്കാമോ? അടിയൻ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്നു ഭാരമായ്തീരുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

Your servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?അടിയൻ രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ യോർദ്ദാൻ കടപ്പാനേ വിചാരിച്ചുള്ളൂ; രാജാവു ഇതിന്നായി എനിക്കു ഈ വിധം പ്രത്യുപകാരം ചെയ്യുന്നതു എന്തിനു?

Let your servant, I pray you, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto you.എന്റെ പട്ടണത്തിൽ എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെയും അമ്മയുടെയും കല്ലറയുടെ അടുക്കൽവെച്ചു മരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അടിയൻ വിടകൊള്ളട്ടെ; എന്നാൽ നിന്റെ ദാസനായ കിംഹാം ഇതാ; അവൻ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ പോരട്ടെ; നിനക്കു പ്രസാദമായതു അവന്നു ചെയ്തു കൊടുത്താലും.

And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto you: and whatsoever you shall require of me, that will I do for you.അതിന്നു രാജാവു: കിംഹാം എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരട്ടെ; നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരം ഞാൻ അവന്നു ചെയ്തുകൊടുക്കാം; നീ എന്നോടു ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നതൊക്കെയും ഞാൻ നിനക്കായി ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.പിന്നെ സകലജനവും യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നു. രാജാവു യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നശേഷം ബർസില്ലായിയെ ചുംബനംചെയ്തു അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവൻ സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.രാജാവു ഗില്ഗാലിൽ ചെന്നു; കീംഹാമും അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയി; യെഹൂദാജനമൊക്കെയും യിസ്രായേൽജനം പാതിയും കൂടി രാജാവിനെ ഇക്കരെകൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen you away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David's men with him, over Jordan?അപ്പോൾ യിസ്രായേൽപുരുഷന്മാർ ഒക്കെയും രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു രാജാവിനോടു: ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ രാജാവിനെയും അവന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെയും ദാവീദിന്റെ സകലപരിചാരകന്മാരെയും മോഷ്ടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു യോർദ്ദാൻ കടത്തിയതു എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be all of you angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king's cost? or has he given us any gift?അതിന്നു യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ ഒക്കെയും യിസ്രായേൽ പുരുഷന്മാരോടു: രാജാവു ഞങ്ങൾക്കു അടുത്ത ചാർച്ചക്കാരൻ ആകകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ; അതിന്നു നിങ്ങൾ കോപിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? ഞങ്ങൾ രാജാവിന്റെ വക വല്ലതും തിന്നുവോ? അവൻ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു വല്ല സമ്മാനവും തന്നുവോ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than all of you: why then did all of you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.ദാവീദ് യെരൂശലേമിൽ അരമനയിൽ എത്തി; അരമന സൂക്ഷിപ്പാൻ പാർപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന പത്തു വെപ്പാട്ടികളെയും രാജാവു അന്തഃപുരത്തിൽ ആക്കി രക്ഷിച്ചു എങ്കിലും അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നില്ല. അങ്ങനെ അവർ ജീവപര്യന്തം കാവലിലിരുന്നു വൈധവ്യം ആചരിച്ചു.

Then said the king to Amasa, Assemble me the men of Judah within three days, and be you here present.അനന്തരം രാജാവു അമാസയോടു: നീ മൂന്നു ദിവസത്തിന്നകം യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവരുമായി ഇവിടെ വരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

So Amasa went to assemble the men of Judah: but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.അങ്ങനെ അമാസാ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടുവാൻ പോയി; എന്നാൽ കല്പിച്ച അവധിയിലധികം അവൻ താമസിച്ചുപോയി.

When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa went before them. But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he stroke him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Bethmaachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.എന്നാൽ ശേബ എല്ലായിസ്രായേൽഗോത്രങ്ങളിലും കൂടി കടന്നു ആബേലിലും ബേത്ത്-മാഖയിലും എല്ലാബേർയ്യരുടെ അടുക്കലും ചെന്നു; അവരും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു.

And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Are you Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of yours handmaid. Then she spoke, saying, They were known to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter.എന്നാറെ അവൾ ആബേലിൽ ചെന്നുചോദിക്കേണം എന്നു പണ്ടൊക്കെ പറകയും അങ്ങനെ കാര്യം തീർക്കുകയും ചെയ്ക പതിവായിരുന്നു.

The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall.കാര്യം അങ്ങനെയല്ല; ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബ എന്നൊരു എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടുകാരൻ ദാവീദ്‍രാജാവിനോടു മത്സരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവനെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതന്നാൽ മാത്രം മതി; ഞാൻ പട്ടണത്തെ വിട്ടുപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സ്ത്രീ യോവാബിനോടു: അവന്റെ തല മതിലിന്റെ മുകളിൽനിന്നു നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഇട്ടുതരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they retired from the city, every man to his tent. Now Joab was over all the host of Israel: and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites:യോവാബ് യിസ്രായേൽസൈന്യത്തിന്നൊക്കെയും അധിപതി ആയിരുന്നു; യെഹോയാദായുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവു ക്രേത്യരുടെയും പ്ളേത്യരുടെയും നായകൻ ആയിരുന്നു.

And Adoram was over the tribute: and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder:അദോരാം ഊഴിയവേലക്കാർക്കു മേൽ വിചാരകൻ; അഹിലൂദിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് മന്ത്രി;

And Sheva was scribe: and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests:ശെവാ രായസക്കാരൻ; സാദോക്കും അബ്യാഥാരും പുരോഹിതന്മാർ.

And Ira also the Jairite was a chief ruler about David.യായീർയ്യനായ ഈരയും ദാവീദിന്റെ പുരോഹിതൻ ആയിരുന്നു.

2 Samuel 21

Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.ദാവീദിന്റെ കാലത്തു മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം തുടരെത്തുടരെ ക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായി; ദാവീദ് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചപ്പോൾ ശൌൽ ഗിബെയോന്യരെ കൊല്ലുകകൊണ്ടു അതു അവൻ നിമിത്തവും രാക്തപാതകമുള്ള അവന്റെ ഗൃഹം നിമിത്തവും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)രാജാവു ഗിബെയോന്യരെ വിളിച്ചു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു:--ഗിബെയോന്യർ യിസ്രായേല്യരല്ല അമോർയ്യരിൽ ശേഷിച്ചവരത്രേ; അവരോടു യിസ്രായേൽ മക്കൾ സത്യം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ശൌൽ യിസ്രായേല്യർക്കും യെഹൂദ്യർക്കും വേണ്ടി തനിക്കുണ്ടായിരുന്ന എരിവിൽ അവരെ സംഹരിച്ചുകളവാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു--

Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that all of you may bless the inheritance of the LORD?ദാവീദ് ഗിബെയോന്യരോടു: ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു എന്തു ചെയ്തുതരേണം; നിങ്ങൾ യഹോവയുടെ അവകാശത്തെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാൻ എന്തു പ്രതിശാന്തി ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shall you kill any man in Israel. And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the tomb of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and stroke the Philistine, and killed him.
