Proverbs 23

English: When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you:

Malayalam: നീ അധിപതിയോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു ഇരിക്കുമ്പോൾ നിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നവൻ ആരെന്നു കരുതിക്കൊൾക.

English: And put a knife to your throat, if you be a man given to appetite.

Malayalam: നീ ഭോജനപ്രിയൻ ആകുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ നിന്റെ തൊണ്ടെക്കു ഒരു കത്തി വെച്ചുകൊൾക.

English: Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful food.

Malayalam: അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജനങ്ങളെ കൊതിക്കരുതു; അവ വഞ്ചിക്കുന്ന ഭോജനമല്ലോ.

English: Labour not to be rich: cease from yours own wisdom.

Malayalam: ധനവാനാകേണ്ടതിന്നു പണിപ്പെടരുതു; അതിന്നായുള്ള ബുദ്ധി വിട്ടുകളക.

English: Will you set yours eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

Malayalam: നിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടി ധനത്തിന്മേൽ പതിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അതു ഇല്ലാതെയായ്പോകുമല്ലോ. കഴുകൻ ആകാശത്തേക്കു എന്നപോലെ അതു ചിറകെടുത്തു പറന്നുകളയും.

English: Eat you not the bread of him that has an evil eye, neither desire you his dainty meats:

Malayalam: കണ്ണുകടിയുള്ളവന്റെ അപ്പം തിന്നരുതു; അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങളെ ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.

English: For as he thinks in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, says he to you; but his heart is not with you.

Malayalam: അവൻ തന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ കണക്കു കൂട്ടുന്നതുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; തിന്നു കുടിച്ചുകൊൾക എന്നു അവൻ നിന്നോടു പറയും; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയമോ നിനക്കു അനുകൂലമല്ല.

English: The morsel which you have eaten shall you vomit up, and lose your sweet words.

Malayalam: നീ തിന്ന കഷണം ഛർദ്ദിച്ചുപോകും; നിന്റെ മാധുര്യവാക്കു നഷ്ടമായെന്നും വരും.

English: Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of your words.

Malayalam: ഭോഷൻ കേൾക്കെ നീ സംസാരിക്കരുതു; അവൻ നിന്റെ വാക്കുകളുടെ ജ്ഞാനത്തെ നിരസിച്ചുകളയും.

English: Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

Malayalam: പണ്ടേയുള്ള അതിർ നീക്കരുതു; അനാഥന്മാരുടെ നിലം ആക്രമിക്കയുമരുതു.

English: For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with you.

Malayalam: അവരുടെ പ്രതികാരകൻ ബലവാനല്ലോ; അവർക്കു നിന്നോടുള്ള വ്യവഹാരം അവൻ നടത്തും.

English: Apply yours heart unto instruction, and yours ears to the words of knowledge.

Malayalam: നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പ്രബോധനത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ചെവി പരിജ്ഞാനവചനങ്ങൾക്കും സമർപ്പിക്ക.

English: Withhold not correction from the child: for if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die.

Malayalam: ബാലന്നു ശിക്ഷ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കരുതു; വടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചാൽ അവൻ ചത്തുപോകയില്ല.

English: You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell.

Malayalam: വടികൊണ്ടു അവനെ അടിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ നീ അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ പാതാളത്തിൽനിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും.

English: My son, if yours heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

Malayalam: മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ജ്ഞാനത്തെ പഠിച്ചാൽ എന്റെ ഹൃദയവും സന്തോഷിക്കും.

English: Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when your lips speak right things.

Malayalam: നിന്റെ അധരം നേർ സംസാരിച്ചാൽ എന്റെ അന്തരംഗങ്ങൾ ആനന്ദിക്കും.

English: Let not yours heart envy sinners: but be you in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

Malayalam: നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പാപികളോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; നീ എല്ലായ്പോഴും യഹോവഭക്തിയോടിരിക്ക.

English: For surely there is an end; and yours expectation shall not be cut off.

Malayalam: ഒരു പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും നിശ്ചയം; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.

English: Hear you, my son, and be wise, and guide yours heart in the way.

Malayalam: മകനേ, കേട്ടു ജ്ഞാനം പഠിക്ക; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ നേർവഴിയിൽ നടത്തിക്കൊൾക.

English: Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

Malayalam: നീ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും മാംസഭോജനപ്രിയരുടെ ഇടയിലും ഇരിക്കരുതു.

English: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Malayalam: കുടിയനും അതിഭക്ഷകനും ദരിദ്രരായ്തീരും; നിദ്രാലുത്വം പഴന്തുണി ഉടുക്കുമാറാക്കും.

English: Hearken unto your father that brings forth you, and despise not your mother when she is old.

Malayalam: നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ച അപ്പന്റെ വാക്കു കേൾക്ക; നിന്റെ അമ്മ വൃദ്ധയായിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കരുതു.

English: Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Malayalam: നീ സത്യം വിൽക്കയല്ല വാങ്ങുയത്രേ വേണ്ടതു; ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും വിവേകവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

English: The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that bring forths a wise child shall have joy of him.

Malayalam: നീതിമാന്റെ അപ്പൻ ഏറ്റവും ആനന്ദിക്കും; ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജനകൻ അവനിൽ സന്തോഷിക്കും.

English: Your father and your mother shall be glad, and she that bare you shall rejoice.

Malayalam: നിന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാർ സന്തോഷിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവൾ ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ.

English: My son, give me yours heart, and let yours eyes observe my ways.

Malayalam: മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം എനിക്കു തരിക; എന്റെ വഴി നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു ഇമ്പമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

English: For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

Malayalam: വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീ ആഴമുള്ള കുഴിയും പരസ്ത്രീ ഇടുക്കമുള്ള കിണറും ആകുന്നു.

English: She also lies in wait as for a prey, and increases the transgressors among men.

Malayalam: അവൾ പിടിച്ചുപറിക്കാരനെപ്പോലെ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; മനുഷ്യരിൽ ദ്രോഹികളെ വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

English: Who has woe? who has sorrow? who has contentions? who has babbling? who has wounds without cause? who has redness of eyes?

Malayalam: ആർക്കു കഷ്ടം, ആർക്കു സങ്കടം, ആർക്കു കലഹം? ആർക്കു ആവലാതി, ആർക്കു അനാവശ്യമായ മുറിവുകൾ, ആർക്കു കൺചുവപ്പു?

English: They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

Malayalam: വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നേരം വൈകിക്കുന്നവർക്കും മദ്യം രുചിനോക്കുവാൻ പോകുന്നവർക്കും തന്നേ.

English: Look not you upon the wine when it is red, when it gives his colour in the cup, when it moves itself aright.

Malayalam: വീഞ്ഞു ചുവന്നു പാത്രത്തിൽ തിളങ്ങുന്നതും രസമായി ഇറക്കുന്നതും നീ നോക്കരുതു.

English: At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder.

Malayalam: ഒടുക്കം അതു സർപ്പംപോലെ കടിക്കും; അണലിപോലെ കൊത്തും.

English: Yours eyes shall behold strange women, and yours heart shall utter perverse things.

Malayalam: നിന്റെ കണ്ണു പരസ്ത്രീകളെ നോക്കും; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം വക്രത പറയും.

English: Yea, you shall be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lies upon the top of a mast.

Malayalam: നീ നടുക്കടലിൽ ശയിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും പാമരത്തിന്റെ മുകളിൽ ഉറങ്ങുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും ആകും.

English: They have stricken me, shall you say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Malayalam: അവർ എന്നെ അടിച്ചു എനിക്കു നൊന്തില്ല; അവർ എന്നെ തല്ലി, ഞാൻ അറിഞ്ഞതുമില്ല. ഞാൻ എപ്പോൾ ഉണരും? ഞാൻ ഇനിയും അതു തന്നേ തേടും എന്നു നീ പറയും.
